That and it would keep less troops from the other ones who took different paths. They thought for their troops not them selfs, as their goal was to get as many out alive as possible. And by the looks of it they have both failed and won. Their plan was to take the most dangerous path they where hopes they didn't get caught but hope they did instead of their colleges.
